Society’s responsibility to an individual is to give the best education possible for students. As an individual we pay taxes towards the school. This allows money to be put in the education system which enables school’s to get better supplies such as books and better technology such as more computers and smart boards etc. An individual’s responsibility to society is to follow the law, be a helpful and productive member of society. Also it’s an individual’s responsibility to stop criminal acts from happening, by noticing bad behavior and reporting them to authorities. Individuals should also be responsible for littering and recycling. Also individuals should work hard to make the country the best it can be economically. The laws and morals of the United States of America guide and control the actions of the individual and society. As individuals we follow the law because we fear that the government might fight back. As a society we want to obey the laws and morals of the United States of America because we want to keep the government to people relationship at peace.

Great perspective, Hannah! I agree with the idea of education. A society begins with educated people. We spend the beginning years of our lives getting educated only to score a well-paying job later on in life. Jobs then make up our economy, which feeds into our society as a whole. Without those who are educated in each field, we would not have the right people acting as nurses, architects, mechanics, teachers, etc. Therefore, a society starts by educating it's people, who provide themselves education through taxes.

I agree with Hannah's view on the responsibilities of individuals. Sadly, society can't be there at every moment to ensure protection and safety. But with the loyalty and trust of other individuals, the threat of a lack of protection is much more scarce. "Being the good guy", in a sense, is more vital to the responsibilities of society and the individual than it is assumed to be.

It is very good to remember the important ideals you listed in your response about “loyalty and trust of other individuals” as well as “the threat of a lack of protection” becoming less common, but I feel that these are the reasons a dystopian society can be so easily brought to life. The loyalty and trust of other individuals leads to the blind faith of the greater good, which may truly be good or it may not. Regarding protection, I agree with Jeff that we should all contribute to the military in some way to support it, but it is important to remember a military can easily become overpowering to the will of the people.

A society in general is a large community or country in which its citiznes have vowed to protect one another and to live in peace with one another for the greater good and protection of their society. Societies have responsibilities to their people. A society must protect its own and ensure their safety whenever possible. A society is also responsible for making sure that all of its citizens are housed and are being treated humanely and fairly. An individual however, also has his or her own set of responsibilities to that society to repay it for its protection and care. An individual should give back to their society as one of his or her responsibilities. This could be as simple as getting a job to help the economy or to make sure that they pay taxes. Another responsibility of an individual to their society is that they should offer their service in the military as a way to say thank you towards the society. The responsibilities that the society has to its individuals can't exist unless the individuals also uphold their responsibilties to their society. One can not work properly without the other. They need each other. It's just like how our armed forces wouldn't be anything unless people volunteered to give their service to the betterment of our country.

I agree that in order for the people of a society to live together and to live happily they must be protected. It is the responsibility of the society to protect it's people and ensure safety at all times. But in order for the society to provide this service, some people of the society must put their lives into serving and helping their own people.

I think that society and the people that make up the society must have a very steady and equal relationship to make this work. I think that society only has to help the individual if the individual has helped create a good society, the individual can’t just take what if wants from society. Both must do their own part in the relationship to make it work. The society can’t make it impossible for the individual to be a part of it but it has to make them work to contribute to the whole. Then if they both parts are working together to get what they need to get accomplished then and only then do I think that society needs to help its individual if they need the help. But if the individual has none nothing to add to the whole then why should the society help that individual. As individuals in a society they whole is greater than just its individual pieces. As an individual in society I think that we have responsibilities to the society in which we live, I think that in order to have a successful society we all have to contribute that way everything runs smoother and we’re able to not take from the society but use its tools that we’ve helped to create. I think that society can help its individuals if they need it but the individual can’t expect that the society will just give them handouts whenever they need it to individuals have to contribute first to make a good society.

I agree with you Taylor when you say that the individual has to give, before they can get. If they don't contribute to society, society won't give them anything back. It works as a two way street. It would be unfair, especially to others, if the individual was taking a lot from society, but not helping anyone else and teaching them. Not just society, but everything else in life needs two parts, and for those two parts to work together.

Society is the combination of individuals that cooperate together to benefit each other. The society’s responsibility is to make it possible for the individuals to live. It needs to provide a safe environment for the individual to live and prosper. Also, in order to have an economy, the society must provide jobs and shelter for the individual. The individual’s responsibility to society is to help society give protection and care. In order for there to be a safe environment, the individual must obey the laws and refrain from committing crimes. However, if crimes are committed it is the society’s responsibility to do something to keep it from happening again. The individual must also work in the jobs that the society provides. If there are jobs, but no one working them, then they become pointless and there will be no economy. Without society and the individual working together in harmony, there would be nothing but chaos.

I totally agree with you! Society and individuals go hand - in - hand. In order to make a functioning community, the individuals need to bring out the good in society, while also the society needs to bring out the good parts in the individuals. In order for society to function correctly, like you said, the individuals need to obey. However, there comes to be a problem when there is too much obedience. If everyone always obeyed all the time, there would be a lack of freedom. Our freedom comes from not being obedient and rebelling against governments - the American Revolution is a prime example of this. while I agree with obedience is needed, the rebels are also a key component within society to keep it orderly.

Society's responsibility to an individual is to protect the rights and liberties that they rightfully own. It is society's duty to ensure the safety, well-being, and satisfaction of every single member. Another important responsibility of society is to provide each and every member with a proper education, as everyone desires one just as much as society needs it. Each member of society is destined to have a specific role somewhere in society. As long as each member adequately fulfills their task and positively contributes to the advancement of society, they are entitled to basic, standardized rights provided by society. Along with filling their role in society, the individual has to give back to society by doing things like paying taxes and obeying all laws and regulations. Without the placement of laws or the acceptance of them, society would be nothing more than an unjust, chaotic madhouse. With that said, there is no bond of greater importance than the bond between the individual and society as a whole. Without the trust and consent of each other, society is figuratively handicapped, in the way that it is unable to thrive. One cannot stress enough the importance of societal protection and positive feedback from individuals, as they allow society to progress and flourish in a smooth manner.

I agree with this statement, especially "As long as each member adequately fulfills their task and positively contributes to the advancement of society, they are entitled to basic, standardized rights provided by society." this is a major problem in society today with the institution of a standardized healthcare and government aid. many Americans, particularly in the cities, just live off the governments help. that is enough for them to survive but they become exempt from the very taxes that feed them. this is the issue we, as Americans, face when trying to decide weather our path of government aid is the correct choice for our society to prosper and continue to grow. if lazy citizens just sit around and collect there benefits while remaining out of a job, who will continue to pay? the hardworking taxpayers of America.. the government needs to stop and look at what they are doing and look at the public from both the view of the unemployed and those who fund the food stamps and healthcare the impoverished receive.

I agree with you, Ryan when you say "Without the placement of laws or the acceptance of them, society would be nothing more than an unjust, chaotic madhouse." There are so many people out there that "do what they want" and this is not fair to society. These are the people that live life doing the bare minimum. They are not doing their job as a citizen. It is our responsibility as a part of society to respect the guidelines set by our government and do our fair share to the community. Society can only help us if we help it first.

I agree with most of this, except for the fact that it is society's duty to look after every single member. Personally I feel as though that is too much to ask for a society to do, and a little intrusive if they were looking after every single person in the society. There is just too much to keep track of. I do agree with the statement that there is an important bond between the individual and society.

Both society and the individuals within it have responsibility's towards each other. Within a society, we are governed by several rules that limit the ability of any individual to make a choice, in fear that they will make the wrong one, for either himself, others, or both. For example, traffic rules and the basic federal rules ensure safety for the people within a society. As for people, it's important for them to give back to their society. Becoming educated, following the laws, and completing community service are a few of many examples in which people can give back to their society. Both the society and people in it work together to balance out their safety and success.

A society is not responsible for one individual’s personal property. However, it is the society’s job to maintain order and control. Each society differs on it’s strengths and weaknesses. The society is responsible for providing protection from outsiders and threats within it’s boundaries. Additionally, it should provide good opportunities by understanding the public opinion and adapting to the changes of the society in a positive manner. The individual’s job is to be informed, independent, and equipped with perseverance in spreading his/her opinion. The individual’s perspective is a valuable asset to society because society then has the opportunity to change, ignore, or adapt. Salesman representatives will cooperate together to either spread their business apart to lessen competition or cluster together to attract all the customers to one area. Based on their decision, they will affect society’s shopping patterns and how their customers shop. The individual itself is a small portion of society, but has the overall power to influence and change society. Society cultivates the individuals’ perspective and reflects the diverse opinion of the society.

I believe that it is society's responsibility to watch out for the individual. Society needs to be on guard if anything such as the basic rights of the individual are at stake. As a society you are only has strong as your weakest link, therefore, need to make sure everyone is equal. The society needs to support the individual with the basic needs of survival. Now the individual can't just sit back and wait for the society to pick up their slack. The individual needs to put in the work to make the society great. Everyone in the society has their own specific job or contributes to the society in some way. If one person does not complete their part to the fullest, the society can not grow to bigger better things. Laws were implemented into society to control the individuals. Taxes need to be paid by the individual to support the society for education but in order to pay these taxes, the individual needs to have a job that society has provided. Society and the individual go hand in hand, if one fails to do their part the other one will not be successful either.

I agree with you in that we need to protect our basic rights in the community. Once the rights of the people start to deteriorate, the quality of life goes down too. Once that starts to happen, the society can't be successful and breaks down. The only way that these rights can be protected is by making sure the people in power have our best interest at heart.

Society has many jobs to achieve when dealing with individuals, one of them being to teach the individual life lessons. People learn something everyday, whether they know it or not and that's because of society, not just school. The main reason we learn is from failure in society. We learn why whatever happened has happened and it taught us to never do it again. In some instances, without society there, we would never have learned some of the things we know today. Everyone teaches each other something, and it might be your best friend or someone you met in line at the store that you'll never see again. Your best friend might have taught you why you shouldn't trust people and your new buddy in line might have given you an extra dollar, teaching you that good does still exist. Either way, you learned something. This is your job in society too, as you are meant to teach other people lessons. You give them protection and help them learn just as they would with you. The nature of examples previously in set in society are what help us stay under control and guide others. Surprisingly whether we see it or not, every one is there to help one another.

Sarah, i agree 100% with you. Society helps an individual and an individual helps society. We learn new things everyday and we take what we learn and teach it to others. Even through jobs, we go to school being taught by a teacher and then we go to college and we keep learning then we take that and pass it down to the next generation, whether it be as a teacher or a doctor or any other profession. We constantly learn new things every day and we constantly spread our knowledge to society.

I agree with Jeff's view on this topic. Society and the Individual need to have a push and pull relationship with each other in order to keep everyone happy. Society's responsibility to the individual is to make sure that they are in a situation that keeps them happy, healthy, etc. It is important for us as a society to make sure that it is easy for people who are worse off than others to maintain a lifestyle that keeps them healthy and to make sure that they have all of the same opportunity that people of a "higher class" may have. Attending to basic human needs is the major responsibility of the American society or any other society has to the individual of their society. The Individual has the responsibility of observing the effects of a change in society and see if it is truly beneficial to the individuals that the change is intended for. If a change that we instated as a society backfires and makes it harder for people to carry on in the same manner as before, we have the responsibility to let society know. Once communicated, it is what the individual does the information that we give them. We need to make sure that if there is something that we don't like about what has changed, that we make our opinions known so something can be done about it. Society needs to consider all of the individuals instead of whomever is going to supply their next paycheck and the same with the individual. We need to see how we can best impact the change of society through our own actions and how society can best impact us as an individual through their actions as well.

Beautifully put Aaron, I agree that a society must attend to the individual's needs as a human and that an individual's responsibility to a society is to make it aware of whatever is unjust. However, a society must also listen to it's citizens when they are saying something is wrong. In line with a society's duty to keep their people safe, listening to their needs and not just coming up with what they think their citizen's need is a huge factor.

I also agree with this idea that it is a two way relationship between the individual and their society. And each party does have to keep an open mind on new ideas and ways to improve the whole.

A society had the responsibility of keeping an individual safe from things he cannot prevent alone. For example, our society provides police forces, firefighters, and emergency medical services to keep our individuals safe. However, it is the responsibility of the individual to not put any of their fellow citizens in harms way. Luckily enough, society is prepared for any type of situation, as they should be. They provide police to keep it's citizens in check. It also works the other way around, the society has it's people to remind it of the original values if it gets a little too power hungry. The individual owes it to the society and the rest of it's individuals to always stick up for what is correct, to make the society aware of injustices. This is why, in my opinion, it is important for a society to have democratic elements to it. A society shouldn't be allowed to invade your personal privacy or violate you in any other way, unless it is ultimately for your safety. Society's true duty is to keep it's people safe.

I agree with you, Kayla. There are too many things these days that an individual can not prevent, so with society's help, some of these natural disaster affects or crimes or even terrorist attacks could be minimized or stopped completely. It was also well said how an individual should be able to give feedback and spread awareness of any unknown injustices.

A society is responsible for keeping its citizens safe and well-educated. By keeping all the members of a society educated, it allows for individuals to grow and develop into working adults. They will get jobs and, therefore, spend money which will ultimately help stimulate the economy. They will also start paying taxes which get filtered back into the schools. To keep the citizens feeling safe and secure, laws have to be established and enforced. But the individuals must abide by the laws put into place for them to be effective. One of the most important things that a society should give to its members is the ability to be an individual. A society should never put its members down or tell them that they cannot rise in rank and better themselves. Every individual is responsible for getting a job, paying taxes, volunteering for community service, and acting morally toward others. People who have jobs and volunteer for community service benefit society because they are helping others in their community using their personal skills. The actions of both the individual and the society are guided by norms, laws, morals, and personal beliefs. For example, we follow the laws that our government puts in place so that we don’t go to jail or get fined. Likewise, we don’t disrespect our parents or teachers, not because we’re afraid of being punished, but because we were taught to always show them respect.

In a society there are many people that come together to raise the quality of life in their community. Everyone in the community needs to do the right thing in order for everyone to be happy, but when one person slips up everyone suffers. When one person doesn’t work, the economy can’t prosper and others have to pay for it. When everyone is working and volunteering, the society can become more powerful. The society on the other hand needs to help those who find it harder to contribute. A disable person may not be able to work as much as everyone else, but that doesn’t make them less important. The society needs to support and protect everyone so that they will be able to give back. This is a cycle. The more people work the better the society does, and the better the society does the more support can be given back to the people and everything works perfectly. When people stop working, though, things fail and the people become a strain on the society because there are not enough resources to support those who need it. We are dependent on everyone around us to be happy.

Society's main responsibility to the individual is to provide for the individual. This can mean providing a range of things, from emergency services to even happiness. Aside from things like money, an individual should be able to count on their community or society for support, etc. The actions of a community are usually guided on people's good will. For example, if there had been a death in a family, and that family was part of a close-knit community, that community may rally together and start a fundraiser for a college fund for a child in that family. People are comforted by this support. An individual must, in order for society to function properly, perform to the best of their abilities. We recognize that everyone has their strengths and everyone has their weaknesses. Instead of dwelling on the weaknesses, the individual must realize their strengths and use them to their advantage, as well as to the society's advantage. If a student, for example, graduates high school and realizes he or she would wants to join the military, they should. If a student graduates high school and wants to pursue further education to become a lawyer, they should. An individual will be successful and make society successful if they perform the best they can.

I agree completely with Victoria about many things. First of all, an individual should be able to count on their community. If there is no trust or connections with the community, problems will arise. And like she stated, people are comforted by this support

I believe in a stable society, that an individual needs to be given enough opportunities to become a successful person. A society needs to provide just enough to allow the individual to prove themselves and allow them to show their abilities. One main example is education. If everyone in society had the same opportunity to become educated and start a career in a field of their choice, they would be able to display their talents and give back to the community. You could think of it as a large cycle. If given the right opportunities, an individual could take that and run and become whatever they make of it. But that is where the individual comes in. One with will power and ambition will be the person to take their opportunity and make something of it. Once an individual gets to their prime, that is how they will return the favor to society. By putting in their time and keeping the economic cycle flowing smoothly. By Everyone working diligently at their individual jobs will be enough to pay back society for the opportunity to make something of themselves.

Society's responsibility to the people is to protect and put them in the best position possible to succeed, given that the individuals put in the work. Society provides the people with education where it is fair to all. This allows for them to learn and eventually become a productive member of that same society. In order for this to work though, the people must do their job as well. Schooling is paid for by the tax payers. This is only productive if the individuals have jobs themselves so that they can contribute and work together with others to run smoothly. Individuals can't expect for someone else to take care of it and just keep passing it on down the line. People should be proactive and take the initiative and want to better the society. In the grand scheme of things they go hand in hand. If one end of the spectrum is not holding up its end of the bargain then it will not work as it is intended to.

Individuals have duties to a society just like the society has duties to us. We must pay our taxes, help our community, and respect others inside our community. In return, society gives us education, freedom in many decisions in life and a sense of security. Those are the most important responsibilities a society has for the individual. These jobs cannot be completed without the acceptance and aid from the individual. The taxes we pay go to the school for our friends and family. If we do not pay these taxes, our schooling funds go down. A society can only give its community members freedom if they know they will be respected and obeyed. And safety can only be ensured if the individual respects the rules put in place by the society. The only way a society can be successful is if the individual is obey the rules and the only way an individual can be successful is if its society respects its citizens.

Great idea tommy. With the individual paying taxes they are able to aid others in their community. When one person respects another than together, they can do much more than if the two weren't working together. If the individuals of the community don't work together, than the society as whole falls apart.

Society's responsibility to its people is to keep them safe. Society has to set laws and provide a leader to represent itself through some sort of government. If the people don't have a sense of security then they will feel the need to defend themselves which can eventually cause society to crumble. Society also has to show dominance but not to the point of total takeover. In order to have a perfect leader, there must be a perfect balance between being feared and loved, but it is better to be feared then loved. The individuals responsibility is the abide by these laws set by society. If rules aren't followed by the people then society has a harder time properly functioning. Individuals also have to be active in society. For example when people go to school they should learn and not just sit there and be babysat for 6 hours. Or when an election comes around they should go and vote. In order for a society as a whole to properly flow both sides must do what they have to do. When one sides fails to do so is when major problems can occur.

The society as a whole is the most important part of a country. The role it plays is irreplaceable. The responsibility of the society is to help protect the individual’s rights that have been given to them. In our modern day society, in the United States, there are certain things that the society does to benefit each individual as best it can. In order to keep the individuals happy the whole society has to be happy. The individual’s responsibility to the society is to contribute in making sure that the whole society is protected, whether it is serving in protecting the country or just having a say in decisions that will be made. The main driving forces that control the society and its individuals are each other. The society makes decisions or acts a certain way based on each other. An individual can be controlled by a society, and a society can be controlled by individual/individuals, within reason. Many individuals tend to go with the majority of the society, but individuals are able to voice what they think to the society. As long as the society and its people work together there is a balance which makes a difference in how things are done. Whether they are wrong or not most of the time society tries to benefit the individuals, and the individuals try to benefit the society.

People in a society need to contribute to the society in order for it to function. Thus, to a society, an individual owes some form of labor; he is a pillar that holds society up. However, in return the individual deserves the protection of his rights. If the society can't provide protection then the individual has no reason to stay in it. Therefore, in the end, a society that can't promise safety would fail. To maintain this balance between individual and society, a government that is best suited is put into place. The government regulates what the society is entitled to recieve from the people and what the people are entitled to keep. When someone steps out of line, the government steps in to fix it. For example, if someone robs a bank, they are taking something that he didn't earn. Therefore, the government will arrest them as a punishment for tampering with the balance.

Society and the relationships with individuals is in a sense a cycle, and the duties both parties have are fairly similar. A society's job is to teach individuals life lessons and what is morally right and wrong so that the individual can make smart life decisions. Now in return, an individual's job is to give back to society when they have matured enough. They must teach the youth as society taught them when they were young and in the process of growing up. Like the cliche pay in forward technique, in a sense, that is the role of society to individuals. I know this does not happen as there are bad people in this world, but if society can help mold more good individuals than bad, and then those individuals can relay their experiences to further generations, then society can run somewhat smoothly. They say knowledge is power, so teachers and coaches are great examples of people in society who help teach the youth about things in life and how to be a better person. The goal of teachers and other people such as role models is to inspire an individual to maybe one day be like them and give back and teach a class of their own one day. What drives the good people in this world are the ones that are selfless and don't do things for themselves or can take credit for things, but they can say to themselves they made someone's life better and touched and taught them something they can pass on one day. Now not all people are like that, but if society was as selfless as some people, then there might be such thing as a utopia. This constant cycle of learning how to be a good person from society, and individuals passing their wisdom on in a positive manner is how I view a perfect relationship between society and individuals.

Society's responsibility to an individual is to provide them with support, protection, and a good education. Everybody needs motivation in their lives, and to always feel safe from danger. Society does need to provide individuals with a good education, so that a stable society can be maintained. Without education, important jobs will be hard to fill. The individual can only do so much for a large society, so what one must do to help maintain a stable society is to follow rules and regulations, that are typically set for their safety and protection, and to receive a good education and contribute to the jobs that are needed. Also, when one has a job, they should do their job properly so there are no problems that doesn't end up effecting the rest of the society. Things like rules and laws will help guide people to this stable society. There are people to enforce these rules and laws, to keep people in line. If people are not in line, then they are punished by said law enforcers. Other stuff like norms, how people should behave in a certain context/situation, will also help contribute to a good society.

Society's responsibility to an individual is to teach. Not only does society teach people how to go about their daily lives, it teaches people individuality and how to be yourself. Society gives people chances to be opinionated (which is a good thing). It allows people to support what they believe in a free manner. However, many times, which is a problem with society, people can't be free to actually express themselves because of the people that make the society. The people within the society really make the society what it is. If there is a group of people that believe that it is only okay for girls to have long hair, every guy that has long hair will be considered an outcast. The individuals within society decide what, in fact, is socially acceptable. The individuals though, shouldn't let society become overbearing with what is and isn't okay. A society is all about individuals personal values, expression and belief. But if a society strongly believes in one thing, then anything else will be wrong, as said before. Overall, society and individuals are intertwined with each other. The individuals beliefs make up what the society is, but the society itself enforces what beliefs are acceptable and what are not.

A society must provide the basic human needs to the individuals. These include safety and reasonable amounts of control over the individual. Education and employment needs to also be provided by society. The individual must cooperate and put forth their best efforts to keep the society running smoothly. To achieve this, the individual should comply with the rules set forth by society and assist in times when safety is a concern such as a soldier serving during war time. Also, by receiving an education and becoming employed the individual can personally contribute to the society by taking up necessary roles in the community. The individual should be controlled by the society through laws and rules. But the society should also be controlled by the individuals as a whole. This is where the importance of democracy is demonstrated. The individuals should be guided by the society that they themselves have set up and control. This relationship is important and the society should not be too invasive and overpowering but merely functions to keep order amongst the individuals.

I agree that it is the responsibility of the people within a society to keep it running by adhering to its laws and helping out whenever it is necessary. In order for the society to run it needs the cooperation of its people because it is created by those people. I also agree that society should control the individuals to maintain order, but only as controlling as the people who created it allow it to be.

A society responsibility’s to a citizen to do everything that the citizen can not do. Likewise, the responsibility of a citizen is to fill a need that a society requires. In order for a society to be successful, every citizen needs to contribute positively. They need to use there skills for the betterment of the society. For example, if there is a small village and there is no baker but there is a person who is an amazing baker, it is his or her responsibility to society to fill that gap.
In the past, survival has guided this; if you weren’t benefiting everyone, then you were a ‘nonessential’ member of society. When food was scarce, they would be the last fed, if at all. This, in turn, pushed people to be active members of the society. Everyone would keep everyone else in line in order to survive. However, in this day in age, particularly in America where everything is at our fingers, it is easier to fall through the cracks. This leaves a large population in the country as ‘nonessential’ members. Since there is no societal force to make everyone participate, it is left to the government and corporations to provide. Corporations provide to the people what they need (i.e. jobs, food, entertainment, etc.). It is up to the government to provide for the ‘nonessential’ members. Since these people do not contribute, it is left to the government to decide their fate.

To an individual, society’s responsibility is to take care of each other. Doctors, teachers, police officers, etc. are here to help one another. They are here to treat an individual who is sick; to enforce rules and arrest people who are putting us in danger. Teachers give an education to children who will eventually take what they learned to help others when they get a job. We take into consideration people with disabilities or special needs and provide them with what they need to strive in life and make sure that everyone is being treated fairly. An individual’s responsibility to the law is to excel all duties asked including vote, pay taxes, pay bills, do your job right and help others. They need to set a good example especially to the younger generation and teach them wrong from right. What society gives to an individual, an individual gives to society. For example, we are taught how to do things and we take what we learn and use it to teach others.

A society's responsibilty toward an individual is to provide a safe, protected environment in which the individual can live out their life and grow. The society should be responsible for encouraging educational growth as well as ensuring that each individual is entitled to their basic rights. Educational and Judicial systems are key to the individual. Also, the society must provide a means of protective power in the event that an individual is at risk of being harmed. A correctional force is necessary to keep the individual safe from possible threats. However, the individual also has a responsibility to the society. In return for all its services, the individual must learn to take full advantage of all these beneficial aids to become the best citizen possible. They must seek to better educate themselves, get good grades in school, and use their gained knowledge to help better their society. They must also be good semaritans by assisting society in any means of preventing danger or injury to others. Individuals must also be sure to help monitor the society and bring to light any possible dangers or flaws that can prove to be quite harmful to the society. Society relies on the cooperation of individuals just as the individual relies on society to watch over them. I believe it is the government that guides both the society and the individuals within the society. The government establishes laws that must be obeyed and can be enforced if necessary.

A society has a responsibility to the individual to implement a set of laws to follow to keep the citizens safe and comfortable. When children are small, their parents give them rules to follow and manners to mind. Once people grow up, they receive a new set of rules to play by. These rules are laws. The laws are put into place to protect individual's rights in society. It is the duty of the society to enforce the laws, but the responsibility of the individual to respect and follow them. An individual has other responsibilities to the society as well, such as getting an education and later starting a career. If no one went to school or applied for jobs, society wouldn't function. People must function individually before society as a whole can. Individuals must respect all regulations, be productive members of society, and do things such as pay taxes to give back. Society is a platform individuals must take advantage of, but as the people grow, it is only right if they use what society has given them to become productive within society and make things better. Society and the individual have responsibilities towards each other, and to function successfully, both must be considered and respected.

Society's responsibility to an individual is to keep them safe. As well as that, education is something that society is responsible for. Society needs to provide to the individual so the individuals can give back to society. However, the individuals need to accept society's role by going to school and not dangering people around them. People are expected to take the opportunity of going to college because it is offered to them. These are just common norms in our day-to-day lives. We all know that there are consequences for not going to school or doing something dangerous, whether you get in trouble with the law or not. So these consequences tend to keep us in check. For example, someone could get in trouble with the law for doing something illegal. This is then made into public information on the news and because other people don't want to get in trouble they don't do illegal things. Instead people tend to strive to please society through things like community service.

Society's responsibility to the individual is to take care and make sure that the society the individual lives in is the best that it can be. The duty of a society is to protect the individuals who live in the society. By having a society the works well and are united together it can bring the best out of horrendous situations. A great example of how society is to protect the individual would be 9/11. Although it was a very sad time for our country, society had come together in a time of peril and risked their own lives to try to rescue the people that they were able to rescue. An individual's responsibility to society is to help out society since society is always helping the individual. It is our duty as individuals to help society and give back to everything that they have done. Helping the community by doing service projects and paying taxes can help a society in many ways. Doing service projects can create a better and a more beautiful community. Also by paying taxes it will help increase the education in school systems which in the end will help create more educated doctors, teachers, policemen, firefighters, etc. which will better our society. An individual looks to be a better person for their society and society does everything in their power to create better individuals, therefore having a never ending cycle of trying be the best they can be.

A society's responsibility is to protect us from danger and to make laws. A society sets support and makes sure our country is safe. We should feel secure at all times and should not have to worry about anything bad happening. It is also the individuals responsibility to follow the laws and stop deviant behavior from occurring. Individuals need to pursue their goals without interference from others or the government. In the Treyvon Martin case, George Zimmerman thought he was helping his society. He was on neighborhood watch and thought his responsibility was to harm this suspicious kid in his neighborhood. Being on neighborhood watch was the responsibility. The societies responsibility comes in by taking action for giving him a trial since he killed a teenager that was unarmed. The point is George Zimmerman, as an individual thought that was his responsibility to society while so society had certain laws he did not follow.

Society's responsibility to the individual is to keep them safe and provide order. The individual must retain that order and follow the rules. For example, a way that society keeps us safe is for them informing us on what to do in emergency situations. They require schools to perform drills for whether it's a fire or a lock down. The news keeps the citizens safe as well by broadcasting safety precautions for natural disasters. Society also must provide the people with a proper education. This ensures that the citizens will have the essentials that they need to learn and grow. The individuals help the society do this by paying taxes to fund it. Although the individual may or may not be completely involved with the community they must abide by the rules to make the society orderly and effective. Society must make enough laws for the citizens to not go insane but not too many for them to lack making their own decisions and choices. The society must change rules if there is a problem with the individuals, which they are expected to follow.

I agree that it is society's responsibility to keep the individual safe. Society must update the people on what is happening because the people deserve to know what is at risk for them. In that sense, the people must pay taxes for safety precautions that society provides for them like police, broadcasting, and any emergency qualities like shelters. It is also true that the laws society makes should not violate their right to make their own decisions and choices like in 1984. If everyone thought alike and was equal, everyone would be miserable because they can't be themselves (hence why Big Brother provides the people with "victory-" to make them not feel this way).

I believe that the society's most important job is to keep its citizens safe. The society should keep its individuals away from harm that they cannot prevent themselves. They can do this by providing emergency services such as police forces and medical facilities and by enforcing laws and having serious consequences when they are broken. Also the society should provide the best education it possibly can to its people, so students can become hardworking adults. Without essential education, the society wouldn't have jobs and wouldn't have an economy to make it thrive. The individuals should be able to count on their society whenever help is needed, but this doesn't mean that only the society should put in effort. The individuals themselves should contribute to the society by following the laws that are greatly enforced and putting in effort to positively contribute to the economy. This can be done by getting a job that will successfully make the economy richer and paying taxes which supports the society for education. With that said, the bond between the individual and society as a whole is important in having a thriving society. If the society or the individual don't do their part, the society will suffer greatly.

Society’s responsibility to the individual is to protect the person and give him a place to belong. Society should provide everything that is necessary to live a happy and prosperous life in order for people to be a part of it. This includes education, jobs, and a common cause or view on how life should be lived. The individual’s responsibility to society is to follow the rules/guidelines set by it and to do what is necessary to help the society function. A society can only function if everyone agrees to be a part of it and connect themselves in some way. In fact, the very definition of society is: a structured community of people bound together by similar traditions or institutions. If the structure is broken by people not following laws or deviating from the rest of the community, the society no longer exists. Needing a place to fit in guides both the actions of the society and the individual. This underlying desire is one of the only things that keeps most people from only doing things for themselves and what causes them to come together to form a society and keep it going.

Society's role is to protect and consider the well being of the community. This means to provide care, emergency responders and things of that nature. Education should also be provided. In todays society and economy, a good paying job is needed. A good paying job comes from a good education. So not only does a good education help the individual, but in the long run it could possibly help the economy. A society can also be used for a support system. For example, when someone is suffering from an illness, the community might hear about it and come together to help support the family in their time of need. Altruism guides most of the actions the society gives out. An individuals responsibility to society is to follow the rules. Even though there are some people who blatantly ignore the law, it is our duty as citizens to follow and respect the laws of our country. What guides the actions of an individual following the law, is fear. We have all been exposed to things that the government can do, obviously, for example, matters such as terrorism. The government has, in a way, planted a seed in our brains that causes us to fear them. Think about it, if you get pulled over for even the most innocent thing, your heart races and you get panicky. So therefore, what guides us to follow the rules and be true to our country, solely, is fear.

I agree with Becca's point that society should provide care for an individual, however how they do that is up to the government at that point, not the society itself. Society and the individual have large responsibilities to each other. It is society's responsibility to provide a fair distribution of wealth and the pursuit of happiness to the people that live in the society. Distribution of wealth is vital to the happiness of the people and the well being of the society as a whole. People who are on the losing end of this are more likely to rebel and cause issues larger than the preexisting ones. Society also owes the ability to become successful and rise from poverty to wealth to individuals. Individuals should have the opportunity to advance their position in society and earn a reward equal to the amount of work they put in. Individuals are responsible for keeping the steady flow of society and managing their own lives provided society allows this to be controlled by the people. Individuals also have to look out for the well being of the society as a whole occasionally. If all people were solely looking out for themselves, society as a whole would crumble and anarchy would rise. Both sides of the spectrum have necessary responsibilities to one another. If one of them decide to ignore their responsibilities, there would be a massive fallout of the world as we know it.

Society should be able to protect the individual from anything that may harm the individual. This harm may come from outside the society, as in a war, or from inside the society itself, such as privacy rights and being able to keep their individuality. However, individuals are not exempt from responsibilities. The individual should also be able to protect the society. In saying this, the individual should not try to control or overthrow the society for their own benefit. The individual should comply to society's rules so as to maintain the society they live in and not spiral into chaos. However, if the society is being unjust or unreasonable with certain policies or rules, it would be the individual's responsibility to dissolve these laws or makes amendments to them so that they will be in the best interest of both the society and the individual, instead of leaning more towards one or the other. The ideas that guide the government should be ideas that are for the better of the people. However, this is not always the case as in the recent scandal of the government being able to tap into our phone calls and "private" messages between others. Ideas that guide the actions of the individuals are ones that should be for the benefit of society. An example of this is a police arresting a terrorist that was planning on threatening the foundations of the society.

Society's duty to an individual dos not only include protecting and serving, but also their ability to make the citizens have confidence and have faith for ones society to do so. Society should be able to give their citizens peace of mind knowing that they will be protected. As well there should be a guarantee that an education is provided to the best that is possible. Individuals know that there will need to be give and take. Society gives the protection but the citizens need to give their loyalty and dedication to help with the protection to the country. The key I believe to this safe country are having those people are willing to risk their life to help defend our country. May it be in the Army, police force, or fire department all of these are essential to making a safe society for everyone to live and have confidence in their country. An individual has the responsibility to help the less fortunate, follow the rules put in place to keep everyone in society safe. By following the rules put in place are to keep each individual safe! There are boundaries needed to be put into place to make sure that above all the citizen are able to live a free and happy life.

Society in it's entirety is responsible for the behavioral standards which an individual should be held to in order to maintain proper order and certain freedoms among the people. Society should be fair, just, and moral, showing each individual how to behave as part of that society. In addition, each person should be treated equally without creating a facade of uniformity. Society should, rather, promote understanding of differences, and encourage said differences.
In regards to the individual's responsibility to society, one must, of course, support the society. Society is made up of the individuals, so each person must contribute to understanding and acceptance for a society to operate. However, while the individual must contribute to society, he must also challenge it. Society has a tendency to follow an idea to the edge of a cliff and beyond. This is visible in societies with totalitarian governments like North Korea, as well as religious extremist groups like Al Qaeda. Individuals must stand up against the power of society to direct it toward fair and moral behavior, and away from uniformity and deception.
The individual is responsible for driving society's actions, while society is responsible for direction the individual's behaviors. Society and the individual are meant to coexist with structural integrity, each driving the other toward equality, justice, and morality.

I think that society has a responsibility to provide an individual with a safe environment to live. Also a society should provide individuals with equal opportunities. An individual does not chose the type of environment they are born into. If they are born into a lower class family, they may get less opportunities in life than someone born into a wealthy family. If society provides equal opportunities, than everyone will have chance to live they way they want to instead of the way they have to. The individual should be responsible for giving back to the society. I think an individual should appreciate their community and the opportunity that are given to them by society. Nothing should be taken for granted. Equal opportunity is not only the responsibility of the society, it is the individual's responsibility too. Those with greater opportunities should give back by helping those less fortunate. I think respect should guide actions by both the individual and a society. If society respects an individual, the respect will be returned.

I don't think that society has a responsibility to the individual. I think society is made up of a bunch of individuals trying to fit in on common ground. I also don't believe the individual has a responsibility to society. If an individual wants to fit in to society I believe their responsibility is to conform but it should not be. I think society controls the actions of individuals because the constant judging of society controls the thoughts of the individuals. Like in the book Winston began yelling during two minutes of hate because the other people around him were telling and he didn't even notice it. This shows how the thoughts of the society effected his thoughts.

I do not agree with Becky g. I think the government should protect its citizens not society. I feel society should be a sense of togetherness but now it is just a majority group of similar beliefs that force negative energy on the minority. I do agree however that individuals can not have a big impact on society unless it is a group of individuals together.

I believe that an individuals role in society is to pay back what the government provides for them. the government's role should be to provide some small things but not what the american government supplies today. a government should be able to offer some form of protection from harm and ensure the security of its citizens. they should leave businesses alone and deal with distribution of wealth. they should provide a safe, secure banking service that keeps both public and private funds. they citizens of a nation should repay the government for all that goes on. this payment should either be some form of service such as military duty or provide products of trade. this could also be in the form of taxes. that is my view on the individualizes role in society and also the governments responsibility to the citizens.

Society is presented with the expectation of good blinding individuals from realizing the truth of societies around the world. I believe that society should be responsible in coming together as a whole and support one another, but in retrospect it’s just not the case. An example is Oxford itself. Oxford was originally a community largely based on the senior citizens population. They are a prime example of how society can lack support and wholeness; that group, still today, is the majority of the pole to turn down extra money going into education. From what was previously said about paying tax into supporting our school system, society can be viewed as selfish in cases like Oxford. With this, it is the individual to change this. Our responsibility is to show support of one another and be able to become the expectation, showing support and wholeness. Especially in today’s generation, we, as individual, have the motivation and control of how society is viewed and how we view our society.

Society's responsibility towards an individual is to provide them with the basics of life in order for the individual to use the basics to give back to society. It should be a constant cycle between giving and receiving. For example, society must provide the individual with freedom of speech and freedom of press for the individual to express themselves and become their own person that can contribute their thoughts and ideas back to help society through perhaps advances in technology or medicine. It is also society's responsibility to provide the individual with education. Once the individual is educated he can use expand on his knowledge to benefit society perhaps through finding medical cures or technological advances to make life easier for the rest of the people in society. It is important for the individual to know their rights and for society to know what they must provide the people with. Society should have laws and consequences to prevent conflict, but the people should have control over what is being put into place. Unlike the people in 1984, society should allow the people to have their thoughts heard and not be penalized for what they believe in. Without people, there wouldn't be a society, therefore society should be made up of the word of the people.
